Intangible heritage
Transmitting knowledge: the intangible heritage of the Museum of Geography
The museum’s heritage also includes an intangible component: alongside the characteristic practices of geographical research, with the ample space that photography has in it, central is the long tradition of teaching, carried on with conviction even today, which involves bringing students to experience direct observation of phenomena in the field. Since the eighties of the nineteenth century, prof. Giovanni Marinelli held “didactic walks” on the Euganean Hills while, at the beginning of the twentieth century, professors of physical and human geography organized educational excursions to the Po Delta and along the Adriatic coast.
The traces of this practice dot the entire history of geography teachings at the University of Padua, up to today. Would you like to discover how the tradition of educational excursions is valued in the museum exhibition? If you are curious, book your visit today!
